System Effects

Keep in mind, one herb will typically have various effects on several systems. Additionally, different parts of the same herb can have different effects — burdock root is a wonderful alterative for the liver, while burdock seeds work more as an alterative for the skin. Different preparations of an herb also extract out different constituents, so a tincture might not have the same effects as a tea or a powder — constituents like phenolic resins are more soluble in low-polarity solvents (alcohol), while certain polysaccarides like mucilages are more soluble in high-polarity solvents (water). See the Materia Medica page for detailed explanations of each herb.
